  • Two women in And It Rains sitting back to back on a low stool, warmly lit, with fairy lights and pinned pages behind them.
  • Vignettes poster: an evening of six short plays by female playwrights at Hope Mill Theatre, including work by Joanna Nicks.
  • Two performers on a pink-lit stage in Fresh Meat, one seated and laughing, the other dancing with both arms raised.
  • Close-up of a woman in a pink t-shirt mid-scene in And It Rains, caught between laughing and crying.

I’m an award-winning writer based in West Yorkshire, writing for stage and screen.

My play And It Rains won the Shelagh Delaney New Writing Award. My work has been longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize, the Theatre503 International Playwriting Award and the Sky Studios & Box of Tricks Screen/Play Award, and placed in the top 12% of the BBC Writersroom Open Call.

I’m drawn to character-led stories, sharp dialogue and work that finds humour in complicated, sometimes uncomfortable places.

A realistic and punchy picture of life in our times.
